Screening Guidelines

Everyone is different, but there are some basic things to keep in mind at each stage of your life to maintain your good health.

Age 18-40 -- Protect your future

  • PAP/pelvic (yearly until 3 normal results, then every 3 years or by provider recommendation)
  • Chlamydia screening (periodically, ages 18-25)
  • Consider annual breast clinical exams
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series (once, ages 18-25)
  • Tetanus-Diphtheria (every 10 years)
  • Health Risk Assessment (update annually)

Age 40-50 -- Establish healthy habits

  • PAP/pelvic (yearly until 3 normal results, then every 3 years or by provider recommendation)
  • Mammogram (every 1-2 years)
  • Total cholesterol/HDL (every 5 years, ages 45+)
  • Consider annual breast clinical exam
  • Tetanus-Diphtheria (every 10 years)
  • Health Risk Assessment (update annually)

Age 50-65 -- Make health improvements

  • PAP/pelvic (yearly until 3 normal results, then every 3 years or by provider recommendation)
  • Mammogram (every 1-2 years)
  • Total cholesterol/HDL (every 5 years)
  • Fecal occult blood (every 5 years)
  • Consider annual breast clinical exam
  • Tetanus-Diphtheria (every 10 years)
  • Influenza vaccine (annual)
  • Health Risk Assessment (update annually)
  • Hormone therapy education (discuss benefits and risks with your health care provider)

Age 65 and over -- Maintain your health

  • PAP/pelvic (yearly until 3 normal results, then every 3 years or by provider recommendation)
  • Mammogram (every 1-2 years)
  • Bone density (repeat as required)
  • Fecal occult blood (every 5 years)
  • Sigmoidoscopy (every 5 years)
  • Consider annual breast clinical exam
  • Tetanus-Diphtheria (every 10 years)
  • Influenza vaccine (annual)
  • Pneumonia vaccine (once)
  • Health Risk Assessment (update annually)
  • Hormone therapy education (discuss benefits and risks with your health care provider)
